At midnight, my very first travel essay officially went live. It was a strange feeling.
For weeks, Japan had lived only in my journal, my camera roll, and my memories. Then, with the click of a button, those moments no longer belonged only to me. They became stories I was inviting others to walk into.
As exciting as that was, something even more significant happened that day.
I finally understood what Soul Path Insights is.
It’s not a travel blog.
It’s not a memoir.
It’s not a faith blog.
It’s not a place where I pretend to have life figured out.
It’s simply one traveler sharing what she’s learning along the way, hoping that somewhere in these stories another traveler will whisper, “I’m not the only one.”
That has always been the heart behind these words.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV)
Walking the Same Road
Life has introduced me to many companions over the years.
God has faithfully guided me, even when I couldn’t see what lay around the next bend. My parents gave me a foundation that still steadies me today. Friends have reminded me that laughter and honesty are gifts, and one friendship has stretched across more than two decades and several countries, proving that distance doesn’t diminish genuine connection.
I’ve also been encouraged by people I’ve never met. Through music, stories, books, and shared experiences, I’ve discovered that words have a remarkable way of reaching places that conversations sometimes cannot.
Each of those relationships has taught me something important.
Rarely did someone change my life by having all the answers.
More often, they changed it simply by walking beside me.
As author Henry David Thoreau observed, “The language of friendship is not words but meanings.” Sometimes the greatest encouragement isn’t advice. It’s knowing someone understands the road you’re walking.
I Don’t Want to Be an Expert
There are plenty of voices online eager to explain the correct way to live.
That’s never been my goal.
I’m still learning.
Still asking questions.
Still growing.
Some days I feel brave. Other days I feel uncertain. There are moments when faith comes easily and moments when I have to choose it again. There are adventures that leave me speechless and ordinary Mondays that quietly shape who I’m becoming.
Rather than saying, “This is the right way,” I’d rather say, “This is what I’ve experienced. Perhaps something here will encourage you on your own journey.”
Wisdom, I’ve discovered, isn’t pretending you’ve reached the destination.
It’s remaining teachable while you continue walking.
“The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.”
Proverbs 18:15 (NIV)
Writer Parker J. Palmer once wrote, “The soul is like a wild animal, tough, resilient, resourceful, savvy, self-sufficient, and yet exceedingly shy.” I’ve found that the soul rarely responds to being pushed. It responds to being invited.
That’s the kind of invitation I hope these essays become.
More Than Destinations
You’ll probably read about Japan.
Or Korea.
Or France.
You might find reflections about faith, AI, books, BTS, ordinary workdays, grief, joy, or sitting quietly in a coffee shop watching life unfold.
Those topics may seem unrelated.
To me, they’re all different stretches of the same path.
Travel has taught me to notice.
Faith has taught me to trust.
Friendship has taught me to stay.
Writing has taught me to listen.
Every experience leaves behind a small insight, and those little discoveries become the stories I share here.
Perhaps one of them will meet you exactly where you are.
Perhaps another won’t.
That’s okay.
Every traveler notices different things along the road.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
As the poet Rumi wrote, “The way is made by walking.” We don’t gain wisdom by standing still. We discover it one faithful step at a time.
Soul Insights
1. Companionship often heals more deeply than advice.
Some of the people who have impacted my life most didn’t solve my problems. They stayed present while I worked through them. Their presence reminded me that I wasn’t carrying life’s burdens alone. I hope these essays offer that same quiet companionship to someone who needs it.
2. Every person is searching for something.
Some are searching for purpose. Others are searching for peace, belonging, courage, healing, or simply enough strength to make it through another day. Wherever you find yourself, I hope you know there is no shame in searching. The path looks different for each of us, but none of us walks it without questions.
3. Ordinary days deserve our attention.
Not every meaningful lesson happens on an overseas adventure. Sometimes it arrives while editing a video, studying for a quiz, filling your tires with air, or completing another ordinary workday. Those moments often become the quiet foundations upon which larger dreams are built.
4. Growth is usually quieter than we expect.
Very rarely do we wake up transformed. More often, we notice that today’s work feels a little easier than yesterday’s. We realize we’ve become more patient, more courageous, or more willing to trust God one step at a time. Looking back reveals growth that wasn’t obvious while we were living it.
5. God is always walking ahead of us.
Long before I began writing Soul Path Insights, God was writing my story. My prayer isn’t that readers leave impressed by my experiences. It’s that somewhere within these reflections they catch a glimpse of His faithfulness, His kindness, and His gentle invitation to keep moving forward, even when the road feels uncertain.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve found your way here, welcome.
Whether you’re celebrating, grieving, rebuilding, wandering, or simply catching your breath, I’m grateful our paths crossed for a little while.
I don’t have every answer.
I’m still walking too.
But perhaps that’s what makes the journey meaningful.
We’ll notice different landscapes.
We’ll ask different questions.
We’ll learn different lessons.
And every so often, we’ll stop long enough to remind each other that we’re not walking alone.
If you leave this space feeling a little less alone than when you arrived, then Soul Path Insights is becoming exactly what I hoped it would be.
Your Turn
Wherever you are on your journey today, I’d love to know.
What stretch of the path are you walking right now?
I’d be honored to walk alongside you for a few moments through these stories. Perhaps somewhere along the way, we’ll discover that hope often arrives quietly, one faithful step at a time.
Enjoyed this reflection?
If these words resonated with you, I invite you to explore my book, 17 Syllables of Me: A Collection of Haiku and Heart. Through haiku and personal reflections, it offers the same heart behind Soul Path Insights: honest stories, quiet hope, and gentle encouragement for the journey.
Thank you for letting me walk alongside you, one page at a time.
