A friend informed us of his roommate’s passing, someone I also knew. He died unexpectedly during a routine procedure. One of our mutual friends texted us, saying he had just spoken to him on Saturday. He is struggling to accept the sudden loss. Just like that, a life is gone without warning. It’s like blowing out a candle—a flame burning brightly one moment and then extinguished in an instant. I wrote this haiku reflecting on the fleeting nature of human life.
Hidden life’s blueprint
Souls grow on this earthly plane
Flesh fades, homeward bound
