Falling ill floods my mind with childhood memories. As I lay in bed resting and recovering, I recalled those days of being sick as a child. Oddly enough, I didn’t mind getting sick back then. In fact, I actually enjoyed it at times.
I grew up in a large family where my niece and nephew were only a few years younger than me. We all lived in the same house with my two older sisters, a brother-in-law, my nephew, my niece, and my parents. In such a bustling household, finding time alone was a rare privilege, especially time alone with my mom.

When I was sick, my mom was the only person who took care of me. I would get her undivided attention, which was a luxury in our busy home. On a normal day, her focus often had to shift to the younger ones or to my other sister, making it hard to have one-on-one time with her. But when I was ill, that changed.
During those childhood illnesses like mumps, measles, or chickenpox, I secretly enjoyed the isolation. Being quarantined from the rest of the family meant that only my mom could come and see me. She would wash me, change my clothes, bring me meals, take my temperature, and ensure I was comfortable. She even moved one of the TVs into my room so I could be entertained while I recovered.
I treasured those moments with my mom because of the special, undivided attention I received from her. Now, when I get sick, I think back to those days fondly. Remembering the love and care she gave me brings me comfort and reminds me of the deep bond we shared.
