🌙 The Dream That Wouldn’t Let Go

I had a dream that stayed with me long after waking. In it, I saw my twin grand-nieces from Australia but strangely, only one of them was allowed to show herself to the world. The other was kept hidden, like a backup waiting in the wings. I remember thinking, Why can’t they both come out together?

The dream shifted, as dreams do. Suddenly, I was inside a cabin, the kind of quiet, wooden place people retreat to when they need a break from the world. The air was still, the light soft, and there was a child there, playful, innocent, and a little mysterious. She only came out when summoned, as if she didn’t believe she was allowed to exist freely. When our time together ended, she slipped back into a closet, leaving me uneasy and full of questions.

When I woke, I knew this wasn’t just a random dream. It was a message about hiddenness, fear, and the quiet parts of ourselves that are waiting to step into the light.

🌿 The Mirror Within the Dream

Dreams often speak in symbols, not sentences. The “twins” felt like a reflection, one representing the self I allow the world to see, and the other the self I keep tucked away: quieter, more spiritual, deeply creative, sometimes unsure if she belongs.

That hidden twin, I realized, might be the side of me that holds my greatest tenderness and wisdom, the one God keeps nurturing in private until it’s ready to emerge.

“For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” — Luke 8:17

It’s easy to keep our second selves hidden, the one who feels too much, dreams too wildly, loves too deeply. But that’s the part God often uses most. He’s not asking us to split in two but to become whole.

🌸 The Child Who Only Comes When Called

That little girl who appeared only when summoned still lingers in my memory. She felt like my inner child, playful, creative, full of wonder, yet hesitant to come out unless invited. She represents the part of me that wants to write without overthinking, to play piano just for the joy of it, to believe again without fear of looking foolish.

“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” — C.S. Lewis

Maybe God is inviting me to “call out” that inner child more often, not as a guest in my own life but as a resident. Because when that inner child plays, God smiles.

The Cabin of Unseen Growth

The cabin felt like a quiet holding place, a pause between endings and beginnings. It wasn’t isolation; it was incubation. Sometimes God brings a person into stillness not to stall their life but to strengthen what’s unseen. Growth doesn’t always announce itself; often it happens in rooms no one else enters.

“Winter teaches us that life renews itself in silence long before the first bloom.” — Unknown

That cabin became a symbol of grace disguised as rest, a reminder that purpose doesn’t always roar; sometimes it whispers. When the noise fades and the doing stops, the becoming begins.

“Rest is not the absence of movement; it’s the realignment of direction.” — Anonymous

Stillness, then, isn’t empty. It’s the quiet pulse of preparation.

Soul Insights

1. The Hidden Twin Represents Integration, Not Opposition.

The dream’s “hidden twin” reflects the unseen layers of a person, the parts that long to be acknowledged but have learned to stay quiet. Often, these hidden selves hold wisdom, sensitivity, and creativity refined through solitude. Rather than existing in conflict, the hidden and visible selves were always meant to complement one another. God often conceals certain strengths until maturity and discernment are ready to carry them. What feels like hiding is sometimes divine protection in disguise.

2. Wholeness Emerges Through Alignment.

When the outer life and inner world move in harmony, peace follows. Many people live as fragments, showing only what feels acceptable while silencing what feels too tender. But spiritual alignment means walking in truth even when it’s uncomfortable. God doesn’t call people to perfection; He calls them to integration, where the seen and unseen move as one expression of His image. That kind of wholeness reveals a deeper kind of light: steady, authentic, and unforced.

3. The Child Symbolizes Unrestricted Joy.

The child who only appears when summoned represents the divine spark of wonder that lives inside every soul. She is play, imagination, and awe, the qualities often buried beneath responsibility and fear. When that inner child emerges, creativity flows naturally, and faith feels lighter. This is the same essence Jesus pointed to when He said, “Unless you become like little children…” It is through simplicity and curiosity that people encounter God again.

4. The Cabin Marks a Holy Pause.

The cabin within the dream mirrors the sacred seasons when life seems still, yet unseen growth unfolds beneath the surface. It is not isolation but invitation, a space where the soul regains alignment with God’s rhythm. Many mistake these pauses for stagnation, when in truth, they are recalibration. Rest becomes the soil where revelation germinates. The cabin reminds every weary heart that stillness is not wasted; it’s where God whispers most clearly.

5. Integration Is God’s Ongoing Invitation.

Every hidden twin, every silent child, and every quiet cabin lead to the same spiritual truth: God desires wholeness. The soul’s journey isn’t about discarding what was hidden but welcoming it home. When both light and shadow are surrendered to Him, transformation takes root. This is not self-merging but divine partnership, a return to the fullness of who God created one to be. In that sacred union, the hidden twin finally steps into the light without fear.

🌼 Final Thoughts

Maybe the hidden twin in each of us is simply the soul waiting for permission to breathe. We keep parts of ourselves tucked away, the artist, the believer, the one who cries easily, thinking the world can’t handle our full truth. But what if the world needs that part of us?

As I reflect on that dream, I think of Jesus’ words:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” — Matthew 5:14

Maybe this dream wasn’t about my grand-nieces at all. Maybe it was God’s gentle whisper: “Stop hiding. The world needs both of you.”

💫 Call to Action

Take five minutes today to sit with your own “hidden twin.” What part of you have you been keeping in the shadows, your creativity, faith, sensitivity, humor, or truth? Write her a letter. Tell her it’s safe to come out now.

You were never meant to live divided. You were meant to live whole, light and shadow, seen and unseen, because God shines through all of it.
