What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received came from my mom. She told me, “If you want to know how to live your life, ask the One who gave you life.”
It’s simple, but it changed how I approach everything. Instead of scrambling for answers in a thousand different places: friends, social media, even my own overthinking. I’ve learned to go straight to God. He’s the One who designed me, so why wouldn’t He know the blueprint for my life better than anyone else?
Here are three lessons I think anyone can take from this advice:
1. Stop outsourcing your direction.
It’s tempting to ask everyone else what you should do. But their answers will always be limited by their perspective. Go to the Source first, then let everything else confirm or clarify, not replace, what you already heard.
2. Treat prayer like your GPS.
Life will throw detours at you, career changes, heartbreak, unexpected opportunities. Prayer isn’t just a ritual; it’s the rerouting system that keeps you on track when you’re tempted to veer off course.
3. Trust the Designer.
You don’t need to understand every twist and turn of your story in advance. You just need to trust that the One who wrote it knows the ending. That trust makes the ride lighter and a lot more fun.
So when I look back, my mom’s advice is more than just words, it’s been the compass that’s guided me through some of the hardest and best seasons of my life. And honestly? It’s advice I’ll be passing on for the rest of mine.
