Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

A lesson I wish I had learned earlier in life is the importance of building a financial foundation sooner. If I could go back, I would tell my younger self to buy a house early, not to chase status, but to create stability and a sense of ownership. Home is more than a roof over your head; it’s a place where you can breathe, dream, and build. Waiting too long meant missing opportunities that could have set me up earlier for freedom.

I also wish I had taken the time to learn about investments when I was younger. Instead of just working hard and saving what was left, I would have studied how money could grow for me. Compounding, dividends, retirement accounts, all those things seemed distant or intimidating back then, but they really matter. Every dollar you put to work in your twenties and thirties is like planting a seed that could grow into a forest later in life.

And beyond money, I wish I had had a clearer direction for my path, not just letting life happen to me, but mapping out goals and taking deliberate steps toward them. The Navy taught me discipline, and my faith taught me resilience, but clarity would have saved me from detours and delays. Now I see that goals aren’t about control; they’re about alignment. When you know where you’re headed, every small step compounds into momentum.

If I had embraced those lessons earlier, owning property, investing wisely, and charting a clear path, I’d be even further along in the freedom I’m building today. But I don’t regret the journey, because even the late lessons are still lessons, and I get to live them out now with intention.
