There’s a strange freedom in realizing that time doesn’t always add up the way people expect it to. Some friends are raising teenagers, others are welcoming grandchildren, while I often feel like I never really “leveled up” to that stage. I’m still drawn to what’s current, the music, the culture, the trends that pulse through today’s world. It’s not denial. It’s not immaturity. It’s simply that my soul feels lighter than the number on my birth certificate.

People often assume I’m younger than I am, and maybe they’re right in some way. I sometimes joke that I’m forever 27, a decade behind whatever life stage I’m “supposed” to be in. But maybe that’s not a deficit. Maybe it’s a gift.

As C.S. Lewis once wrote, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” Perhaps the truest measure of age is not the candles on a cake but the fire that still burns inside.

Living in a World of Timelines

The world likes to hand us timelines: finish school by this age, marry by that age, raise kids, then watch them raise theirs. But God never asked us to follow society’s stopwatch. In Ecclesiastes 3:1, it says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” My season doesn’t look like everyone else’s — and that’s okay. Instead of rushing to catch up, I’ve learned to embrace the beauty of my own timing.

Staying Young in Spirit

I still listen to pop music, still feel the energy of concerts surge through my veins, and still find myself excited about what’s next. Pablo Picasso once said, “It takes a long time to become young.” I think that’s true — it’s not about fighting age but returning to joy. There’s something holy about keeping your heart tuned to wonder, about choosing to stay curious, playful, and alive.

What Never Changes

While circumstances shift, some parts of me remain unshaken. My love for creativity, my openness to people, my hunger for God’s presence — these have carried me through every stage. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” That renewal is why I feel young even when time marches on. God keeps giving me fresh energy to keep showing up to life.

Soul Insights

1. Timelines Are Human, Not Divine.

God isn’t limited by our clocks, and His timing doesn’t bend to human pressure. Just because someone else is married, parenting, or even grandparenting doesn’t mean I’m behind—it simply means their path is different. My story unfolds in the rhythm of heaven, not in comparison with others, and I can rest knowing that what is meant for me won’t pass me by. Every delay is actually alignment, preparing me for a season I couldn’t step into prematurely. When I trust His pace, I trade comparison for peace.

2. Youth Is an Inner Posture.

The world says youth fades, but Scripture teaches that joy can be renewed daily, a gift from God that doesn’t age. When I choose delight, in music, creativity, or friendships, I tap into a fountain that refreshes me from the inside out. My soul feels light no matter what the calendar says, because joy isn’t bound to birthdays or milestones. It’s rooted in the eternal, not the temporary, and that makes it unshakable. Each new day offers the chance to start fresh, carrying wonder instead of weariness.

3. Curiosity Keeps Us Alive.

It’s not about being trendy for the sake of trends; it’s about keeping my heart awake and my spirit engaged. Staying open to the new, whether that’s new songs, new travels, or new ideas, keeps me from getting stagnant. Curiosity becomes a kind of spiritual discipline, reminding me that God is always doing something fresh and inviting me to notice it. When I lean into wonder instead of resistance, I find myself growing instead of shrinking back. It’s a way of saying yes to life, and more importantly, yes to Him.

4. God Renews What Time Wears Down.

When fatigue creeps in, I remember that God restores strength, and His supply never runs dry. The energy I feel isn’t denial of age; it’s dependence on His constant renewal, the kind that lifts me when I can’t lift myself. That’s why I don’t feel weighed down by the years, because His Spirit breathes life into every season. I’m learning that resilience doesn’t come from pretending I’m younger, but from trusting that He makes me new each day. In that truth, the weight of time feels lighter, and joy feels closer.

5. Living “Forever 27” Is Permission to Flourish.

Every season has a rhythm, and thriving means dancing to the one I’m in. If my soul feels young, that’s worth celebrating, because it means I’m choosing life over limitation. Age isn’t an anchor. It doesn’t have to weigh me down or define what I can or cannot do. It’s simply a number, one that marks time but doesn’t measure the depth of my spirit. When I embrace that truth, I find freedom to live fully and joyfully right where I am.

Final Thoughts

I may not fit into the timelines others expect, but maybe that’s the point. To live “forever 27” is to live with joy, curiosity, and strength that come from God alone. It’s to keep dreaming new dreams, even as the years shift around me.

Albert Einstein once said, “Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born.” That’s how I want to live — as if wonder is my true age.

So here’s my invitation to you: Don’t let numbers define you. Let joy define you. Let God’s renewal define you. You’re not too late, not too early. You’re right on time.

🌟 Your Turn

If you’ve ever felt “out of sync” with the timelines people expect, you’re not alone. What matters is the fire God has placed in you, not the candles on a cake.

💬 I’d love to hear from you: What keeps your spirit young? Is it music, faith, creativity, or something else? Share in the comments — let’s inspire each other to live fully, right where we are.

And if this reflection encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who might need the reminder that joy doesn’t have an expiration date.
