Because stillness doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

In The Elevator

I spent a good chunk of my day escorting a plumber around my office building.
Yep—just me, a badge, and a series of elevator rides between floors. It wasn’t dramatic or exciting. No spiritual breakthrough. No magical moment. Just slow, quiet motion from one stop to the next.

But somewhere between those in-between floors, a truth hit me softly:
This is what becoming looks like.
Not flashy. Not loud. But real. Even holy.

And maybe you’ve been here too—moving without momentum, waiting while still in motion.
Let’s talk about that divine middle place where transformation doesn’t always announce itself, but still leaves fingerprints all over your soul.

The Elevator Moment No One Talks About

At first, I was just doing my job—guiding the plumber from floor to floor. I wasn’t deep in thought. I wasn’t feeling overly reflective. I was mostly bracing myself for a long, mildly inconvenient day of walking and waiting.

But then I remembered something I’ve often dreamed about:
In the afterlife, I’ve always imagined being a spiritual guide—someone who helps souls transition between realms. Not a flashy title, just a quiet presence. A gentle guide between worlds.

And suddenly, it hit me…
That’s exactly what I was doing, in a very earthly way.
I wasn’t just escorting someone. I was holding space.

“Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.”—Proverbs 8:34

Sometimes, the work of guiding others isn’t celestial—it’s mundane.
But it’s still holy.

The In-Between Is Still Moving

There’s this illusion that when we’re not visibly making progress, we’re stagnant. But elevators don’t make noise when they’re working properly. They glide. They move in silence.

That’s what this season feels like for me.
I’m a writer. I’ve written a book full of heart and haiku. But to become a published author? That means I’m still between floors.
Not stuck. Just not at my destination yet.

And maybe that’s you too.
You’re not where you were—but you’re not quite where you’re going.

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
—Philippians 1:6

The Missed Call That Wasn’t Missed at All

At one point today, I was waiting for the plumber to call me… and he never did. Turns out, he had the wrong number the whole time.

It sounds small, but it struck something in me.
How often do we think we’re being ignored, when in reality—there’s just been a misconnection?
Maybe God isn’t silent. Maybe we just weren’t listening in the right way.
Maybe we’ve been expecting loud answers, but He’s been whispering all along.

“Sometimes when you’re in a dark place, you think you’ve been buried, but you’ve actually been planted.”
—Christine Caine

What the Elevator Taught Me

1. Stillness isn’t stagnation.
It’s easy to confuse a quiet season with a wasted one. But movement doesn’t always look like hustle—sometimes it looks like breath, rest, or unseen alignment. Just because your life feels still doesn’t mean God isn’t moving you toward something meaningful.

2. The in-between has its own kind of grace.
We often rush through transitions, thinking the value only exists at the destination. But the in-between is a teacher—it holds the sacred pause where character is shaped and trust is deepened. This space is holy because it’s where we decide who we’re becoming.

3. Your presence matters, even in quiet roles.
Not all impact is loud. Sometimes just being there—being steady, being kind, being aware—is enough to shift an atmosphere. We underestimate how much light we carry just by showing up.

4. God often speaks in missed calls.
What seems like a delay might just be divine redirection. Sometimes the connection we’re waiting for is already trying to reach us, but we’re tuned to the wrong frequency. Don’t mistake silence for absence—sometimes God’s whisper is closer than we think.

5. Becoming takes place between levels.
You don’t level up in one leap. Transformation happens in stages, and the “between” is where we unlearn, stretch, and reimagine ourselves. The in-between isn’t just a hallway—it’s a refining place.

“The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.”
—Fabienne Fredrickson

Final Thoughts:

So if you’re in a season where it feels like nothing’s happening…
If you’re stuck in transition, riding invisible elevators between your calling and your arrival—
Breathe.

You’re not behind. You’re not forgotten.
You’re in motion.
And that motion is doing something holy in you.

The elevator may be silent—but it’s still rising.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
—Psalm 46:10

Whispers Between the Lines

Much of what I felt today—between floors, between roles, between becoming—is what inspired the poetry I’ve been writing behind the scenes. It’s a collection of haikus and reflections born from moments just like this: soft, slow, and strangely full of meaning.

I’m not ready to release it just yet, but it’s coming.

And if you’re in a quiet season… if you’re becoming something new…

I think you’ll find yourself in those pages when the time comes.
