Finding God in the Ordinary Moments of a Forgettable Day

The Blur Is Real
You ever have one of those days where you blink and suddenly it’s 10:25 p.m., and you’re lying in bed wondering what in the world even happened?
That was me on Tuesday (1 April 2025). I almost called in sick—not because I was sick, but because my bed was emotionally persuasive. But somehow, through sheer willpower (and maybe God’s gentle nudge), I got up and went to work.
What followed was one of those forgettable-but-somehow-full kinds of days. The kind that blurs in the middle but lingers in your soul. And maybe, just maybe, those are the kinds of days that matter most.
The Slow, Sacred Grind
I clocked in at work a little groggy and unsure how the morning passed. Emails? Conference room reservations? A few conversations? Honestly… no clue. It’s as if the morning floated by on autopilot. But I was there. I showed up. That counts.
“Faithfulness in little things is a big thing.” —St. John Chrysostom
Around 11:30, I took lunch. Before I knew it, lunchtime was over. My second boss had slipped into a meeting, and just like that, the bulk of the day had passed me by.
I left the office around 3:15 and returned home—to the familiar rhythm of laundry humming in the background and my fingers dancing over the keyboard. I’m happy to report: Chapter 6 of my book is now alive and breathing. Hallelujah.
Between thoughts and tumble cycles, I messaged friends who felt like home. My coworker and I also booked an Airbnb in Seoul—yes, Korea is officially happening! A quiet thrill bubbled up just thinking about it.
Scripture in the Mundane
There’s a quiet holiness in ordinary days. We often want fire-from-heaven moments. But God sometimes whispers instead of thundering.
“In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” —Proverbs 3:6
Even when the path includes office chairs, laundry loads, and trip planning—He’s still walking with us.
Soul Insights
1. Showing Up Is a Spiritual Discipline
Even when I wanted to stay home, I got up and went. There’s faith in that. God honors the moments we choose presence over preference.
“Success is the sum of small efforts—repeated day in and day out.” —Robert Collier
2. Time Can Fly, but Purpose Doesn’t Evaporate
Though I barely recall the morning, I was still useful. Invisible labor still counts. Faithfulness doesn’t always make headlines, but it builds something sacred.
3. Joy Hides in the Cracks
A booked Airbnb. A few shared texts. The tumble of clean clothes. These moments weren’t big—but they were real. Sometimes joy isn’t announced—it just slips in, unnoticed but sure.
4. Progress Isn’t Always Loud
Working on Chapter 6 didn’t involve fireworks. But it moved me forward. Not all victories come with trumpets. Some arrive in pajama pants while the laundry cycles.
5. God Is in the Forgettable Too
Even if I forget what I did today, God doesn’t. And honestly, He probably smiled at the way I juggled adulthood, writing dreams, and group texts all in one day.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” —Colossians 3:23
Final Thoughts: Let the Day Count Anyway
We don’t always get to be the main character in a dramatic, cinematic moment. Some days feel like filler episodes—no big plot twists, just little choices. But here’s the truth:
“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have.” —Laura Ingalls Wilder
And maybe… the most honest kind of faith is lived out in the filler episodes. In showing up. In doing laundry. In booking a trip with joy. In writing reflections while your body begs for sleep.
So tonight, I say: the blur still matters. Because I lived it. I was present. And God was too.
