Finding Strength in Stillness
Have you ever found yourself lying awake at night, replaying conversations, worrying about the future, or feeling the weight of responsibilities pressing in? It’s easy to get lost in our thoughts, allowing anxiety to take over. But what if true peace had nothing to do with our circumstances and everything to do with where we place our trust?
Isaiah 26:3 tells us:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (ESV)
This verse isn’t a promise that life will be easy or that struggles will disappear. Rather, it reminds us that peace comes from where we place our focus. When our minds are fixed on God—when we choose to trust Him over our circumstances—we can experience a deep, unshakable peace.
I remember a season in my life when I felt completely overwhelmed. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t fix the situation. I analyzed every possibility, planned every scenario, and yet, nothing changed. The burden was exhausting. Then one day, I came across Isaiah 26:3, and something clicked—I had been spending so much time trying to control everything instead of trusting God. The moment I surrendered my worries, I felt a peace I hadn’t experienced before. It didn’t mean my circumstances changed overnight, but my heart did.
So, how do we get there? How do we cultivate a mindset that remains steady in faith, even when life feels chaotic?
Knowing Your Role: Letting Go and Letting God
Many of us carry burdens we were never meant to bear. We try to solve problems beyond our control, fix situations that seem impossible, or change people who don’t want to be changed. It’s exhausting. But here’s the truth: peace isn’t about striving—it’s about surrender.
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” — Reinhold Niebuhr
There are things that are within our power—our attitude, our choices, and our faith. But there are also things that only God can do. We can’t force doors to open, make someone do the right thing, or heal ourselves. Our role is to trust, stay in faith, and believe that God is working behind the scenes.
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (ESV)
When we release control and give our worries to God, we make room for His peace to take over. The weight lifts, the stress subsides, and we find strength in stillness.
The Power of a Renewed Mind
Our minds are constantly bombarded with negativity—worries, doubts, fears, and lies that try to undermine our faith. If we’re not careful, we can allow these thoughts to shape our reality. But we have a choice. We can choose to renew our minds with truth, to shift our focus from fear to faith, and to remind ourselves of who God is.
“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” — Joyce Meyer
Romans 12:2 urges us:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV)
A mind that is stayed on God is a powerful force. It allows us to see beyond the present struggle, to stand firm when life shakes us, and to walk confidently in faith, knowing that God is in control.
Practical Steps to Renew Your Mind:
• Filter your thoughts: Identify negative, anxious, or faithless thoughts and replace them with truth from God’s Word.
• Speak life: Use scripture-based affirmations to declare God’s promises over your life.
• Limit distractions: Reduce time spent consuming news or social media that fuels fear and doubt.
• Surround yourself with faith-filled people: Community strengthens our ability to stay focused on God.
Final Thoughts: Walking in Peace
The storms of life will come, but they don’t have to define us. True peace isn’t about our circumstances; it’s about where we place our trust. When we fix our minds on God—choosing faith over fear, surrender over control, and truth over lies—we step into a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Take a moment to reflect:
• What is one specific thought or worry you can release to God today? Write it down and pray over it.
• What truth from God’s Word can you focus on to replace negative thinking? Choose a verse to meditate on this week.
No matter what’s happening around you, peace is available to you. God is bigger than your worries, stronger than your struggles, and always working on your behalf. Keep your mind on Him, and you’ll find the strength to walk through anything with confidence.
A Prayer for Peace
“Father, thank You that I don’t have to carry every burden alone. Help me to fix my mind on You, to release what I cannot control, and to walk in the peace You promise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
