I still remember the hesitation I felt when I first volunteered to lead a foreign delegation at work. I knew it would be a lot of work, but I had no idea just how much responsibility it would entail. At that moment, I wondered if I’d taken on more than I could handle. The task felt big, almost too big, and the doubts started creeping in.

It reminds me of Moses at the burning bush—a moment when God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses, too, hesitated, overwhelmed by the weight of the responsibility. Yet through his story, we learn a powerful truth: God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.

The Reluctance of Moses

Moses’ interaction with God in Exodus 3-4 is a story of reluctance we can all relate to. He questioned his abilities, made excuses, and even begged God to send someone else. His doubts were clear:

• “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” (Exodus 3:11)

“What if they do not believe me?” (Exodus 4:1)

• And finally, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” (Exodus 4:13)

Moses’ excuses stemmed from fear, insecurity, and the belief that he wasn’t enough. And yet, God responded not with anger but with reassurance: “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12).

How often do we, like Moses, focus on what we lack rather than trusting that God can fill in the gaps?

My Own Journey of Saying Yes

Like Moses, I’ve faced moments of self-doubt when taking on big responsibilities. One such moment came when I volunteered to lead a foreign delegation at work.

Initially, it didn’t feel like a big task. I had seen others handle it successfully and thought, “If they can do it, so can I.” But looking back, I realize just how significant the responsibility was. I had to create a seminar agenda, coordinate with other agencies, and secure instructors. It required meticulous planning, communication, and leadership.

As daunting as it seemed, I stepped up because I wanted to challenge myself and grow. I prepared a task list, leaned on what I’d learned from others, and trusted in my ability to see it through. And when the event was a success, I discovered something profound: I can do far more than I think when I trust in my preparation and in God’s guidance.

This confidence carried over into other leadership roles, like leading a nationwide radio campaign for BTS and hosting citywide events for BTS Army. Each experience reinforced a truth I now hold close: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Lessons from Moses’ Story

Moses’ story reminds us that God doesn’t just call us to big tasks—He also equips us to succeed. When Moses doubted his speaking abilities, God provided Aaron to speak on his behalf. This teaches us that we’re never alone in our calling.

As Dwight L. Moody once said, “Moses spent forty years thinking he was somebody, forty years learning he was nobody, and forty years discovering what God can do with a nobody.”

Whether through preparation, support from others, or sheer grace, God ensures we have what we need to step into His calling.

Soul Insights

1. God Uses the Unlikely

If you feel unqualified, you’re in good company. God often chooses those who feel the least prepared to showcase His power.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

2. Fear is a Liar

Fear magnifies our limitations, but faith magnifies God’s provision. Challenge the lies that say you can’t do it by replacing them with truth.

3. Preparation Builds Confidence

Every challenge you face is a stepping stone for something greater. Reflect on past experiences, create a plan, and trust in the lessons you’ve learned along the way.

4. Support is Key

God sent Aaron to help Moses. Don’t be afraid to lean on others or delegate when the weight of responsibility feels too heavy.

5. Saying Yes Transforms You

Each time you step into a calling, you grow stronger and more equipped for the future.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28).

Final Thoughts

Looking back, I see that the moments I hesitated or doubted were also the moments that stretched me the most. Each time I stepped up—whether it was leading a delegation, coordinating a campaign, or hosting an event—I grew into someone stronger, more confident, and more aware of God’s provision.

If you feel overwhelmed by a task or responsibility, ask yourself: Why not me? God doesn’t call the perfect; He perfects those He calls. Take the first step, trust in His guidance, and watch as He equips you to do more than you ever imagined.

So, what’s your “burning bush” moment? Is there something you’ve been hesitating to say yes to? I encourage you to take a leap of faith. You just might discover that the strength you’ve been searching for has been within you all along.
