The Small Piece That Makes the Whole: Trusting the Bigger Picture

Have you ever felt like what you’re doing is too small to matter? Like you’re just one person in a vast sea of efforts? I’ve felt that way before, but I learned something important when I led a campaign to bring BTS to American radio—small pieces build the biggest pictures. What started as a small effort rooted in love grew into something that shifted music, representation, and inclusivity on a greater scale. And though I couldn’t see the whole map back then, I now know I was part of something far bigger than myself.

The Insights

There were moments during the BTS radio campaign when I sacrificed sleep, time, and energy, wondering if the work would pay off. It wasn’t easy. I faced opposition and skepticism. DJs would tell us to “request real music” simply because BTS didn’t sing in English. But I knew the why behind my efforts—it was about representation, inclusivity, and amplifying a message the world needed to hear: a message of love, self-acceptance, and authenticity.

1. Love Is the Ultimate Driver

My efforts were fueled by love—love for BTS, who showed humility, authenticity, and selflessness. Their message reminded me of Jesus’ teachings: love others unconditionally, serve without expecting, and be real. It’s love that propels us to make an impact that outlasts recognition.

Each step, however minuscule it seemed, contributed to the change I believed in. 5. The Reward Is Seeing the Impact

I didn’t do this for recognition, but the reward came when I saw BTS win awards, gain Grammy nominations, and change the music landscape. That’s the beauty of serving out of love—what you sow in selflessness will bear fruit, even if you don’t always see it right away.

The Present Reflection

Years later, I still carry this lesson with me. Whether I’m leading in work, serving in church, or helping friends, I remember that God uses my small efforts for His bigger purpose. What felt minuscule at the time was a necessary piece of the puzzle—one that contributed to changing lives and inspiring others.
