Finding Peace in the Chaos
Life often feels like a race against the clock. Some days, we’re so busy that we barely have time to breathe, let alone reflect. Yesterday was one of those days for me—a morning that started with a sprint, errands that had to be run, and chores waiting for me at home. But even in the rush, I found moments of grounding that brought me peace and purpose.
As I looked back on my day, I was reminded of Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” These words became my anchor, a reminder that no matter how hectic life gets, God offers rest and renewal for our weary souls.
Here’s how I learned to find peace amidst the chaos—and how you can too.
The Morning Rush: A Test of Grace
The day began at full speed. Emails piled up, meetings, and my to-do list grew faster than I could check things off. I caught myself thinking, “How will I get through all of this?” But as I paused to take a deep breath, Psalm 46:10 came to mind: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
This simple verse helped me shift my perspective. While the deadlines didn’t disappear, I realized I didn’t have to navigate them alone. Instead of panicking, I leaned into God’s presence, knowing He would give me the clarity and strength I needed.
As Mahatma Gandhi wisely said, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.” Sometimes, slowing down internally—even for a moment—can make all the difference in how we face a rushed day.
Errands and Accomplishments: Finding Joy in the Mundane
After work, I headed to HomeGoods and Marshalls to pick up gifts and body care essentials. At first, it felt like just another task to cross off my list, but as I browsed, something shifted. I thought about the joy these gifts might bring to friends and how even small acts can show love and care.
Mother Teresa once said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Her words echoed in my heart as I carefully chose each item. Suddenly, the errands weren’t just tasks—they were an opportunity to bring a little light to someone else’s day.
These moments reminded me that gratitude has a way of transforming the mundane into meaningful.
The Grounding Power of Routine
Back home, I tackled the laundry. Folding clothes isn’t glamorous, but hey, it doesn’t talk back—and that’s more than I can say for my inbox! There’s something grounding about the simplicity of chores. As I sorted and folded, my mind began to quiet, and I found a sense of rhythm and calm.
Isaiah 40:31 spoke to me during this time: “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
This simple routine reminded me that renewal doesn’t always come from big gestures. Sometimes, it’s found in the small, quiet moments when we wait on God.
Unwinding: Brewing Love and Empathy
To end the day, I turned on Brewing Love, a K-drama I’ve been enjoying. The lead actor’s character struck me deeply—he’s a highly sensitive empath who feels others’ emotions so intensely that he often loses sight of his own.
It made me reflect: how often do we absorb others’ emotions without taking time to process our own? The show reminded me of the importance of setting boundaries and creating space for self-awareness.
Stories, whether through scripture or entertainment, have a way of teaching us life’s truths. They inspire us to reflect, to grow, and to see ourselves and others more clearly.
Soul Insights
1. Rest is Found in Trust: True rest isn’t about having a perfect day—it’s about trusting God in the middle of imperfection. As Matthew 11:28 reminds us, Jesus offers the rest we need when we bring our burdens to Him.
2. Pause to Appreciate the Present: Even in the rush, there’s beauty to be found. Slowing down to notice those moments of grace can transform a hectic day into a meaningful one.
3. Small Acts Have Great Impact: Whether it’s picking out gifts or folding laundry, the little things we do with love can make a big difference.
4. God’s Strength is Always Available: Isaiah 40:31 is a promise that even when we feel weary, God is our source of strength and renewal.
5. Stories Teach and Heal: Whether through scripture or a favorite show, stories have a way of helping us reflect, grow, and find deeper connections with ourselves and others.
Final Thoughts
Yesterday reminded me that balance isn’t about avoiding the rush—it’s about finding rest within it. With God’s help, even the busiest days can be infused with purpose and peace.
Corrie ten Boom’s words ring true: “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” Instead of worrying, I choose to trust. Instead of rushing, I choose to pause.
How do you navigate the balance between rush and rest? What small moments help you find peace in a busy day? I’d love to hear your thoughts—let’s encourage one another to find rest in the chaos.
