Praises call attention to God’s glory. Imagine a sunrise painting the sky in hues of gold and crimson—a breathtaking display of creation offering praise to its Creator. Our voices, too, have the power to reflect His glory through words and worship. They are more than just words—they are a declaration of faith, a weapon in the spiritual battles we face daily. Throughout the NIV Bible, praise is mentioned over 360 times, underscoring its significance. Psalms, often called the songbook of the Bible, stands at the exact center of Scripture by chapter and verse (Psalm 118:8), serving as the heart of God’s praises. Psalm 19 reminds us that everything in creation—the heavens, the earth, and all living things—was designed to praise Him.
But here is the question: Will we let nature or even the stones out-praise us? Beloved, let us lift up our voices with prayers and songs, echoing the truth of Psalm 146:6, which says, “Let the high praises of God be in their mouth….” Let us declare, “All the praise and all the glory be to our Almighty God!”
Praise Is a Weapon
David showed us that sometimes all it takes to defeat the enemy is a small stone. Similarly, praise can be the spiritual weapon we need to overcome life’s challenges. When you have praise coming out of your mouth, you are unstoppable. Praise confuses the enemy, breaks chains, and releases God’s power into your circumstances. For example, in my own life, I’ve seen praise shift the atmosphere during heated workplace conflicts, bringing unexpected resolutions and peace.
Consider Paul and Silas in Acts 16. Beaten and imprisoned, they could have succumbed to despair, but instead, they chose to sing praises at midnight. Their praise unlocked prison doors and loosened their shackles, not just for themselves but for all the prisoners around them. Praise doesn’t just set you free; it creates an atmosphere where others can experience freedom too.
Your praise may seem insignificant, but it carries immeasurable power. A simple song of gratitude during a season of grief once lifted my spirit and opened my heart to hope, showing me the profound impact of worship. When you lift your voice in worship, angels go to work on your behalf. The Creator of the universe begins to move in your favor. This truth has been evident in my own life. There were moments when circumstances felt overwhelming—deadlines piling up, conflicts at work, or times of personal loss. Yet, as I chose to praise, I saw breakthroughs I couldn’t have achieved on my own. Chains of anxiety broke, clarity came, and solutions emerged that I hadn’t even considered.
Praise in Times of Trouble
It’s easy to praise God when everything is going well. For instance, when I received a long-awaited job offer, praising Him felt natural. Yet, during a challenging transition to a new role, choosing to worship despite my fear and uncertainty revealed a deeper faith and strength. But the true test of faith comes when we can praise Him in the storm. The enemy expects us to crumble under pressure, to be negative and complain. When we choose to praise instead, we confuse the enemy and activate God’s power.
One vivid example from my life happened during a difficult transition. Years ago, I left a secure position to take on a new role in an unfamiliar environment. The weight of uncertainty pressed on me. Instead of dwelling on my fears, I leaned into worship. Each morning, I declared God’s promises through songs and Scriptures. Not only did I find peace, but I also witnessed doors opening—mentors stepping in to guide me, resources appearing when I needed them, and relationships forming that would support me for years to come.
Why Praise Matters
Most battles we face are not physical but spiritual. Praise shifts the atmosphere. It lifts our focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver. It reminds us of God’s sovereignty and invites His presence into our situation. Psalm 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. I remember a time when this truth became real to me—during a night of worship at a church retreat, I felt an overwhelming sense of His presence as we sang, reminding me that He is always near. When you praise, you make room for Him to reign over your circumstances.
David’s life is a testament to this truth. Time and again, he faced insurmountable odds—whether it was standing before Goliath or fleeing from Saul. Yet, his Psalms are filled with praise, even in the darkest times. He understood that praise wasn’t just an act of worship but a declaration of trust in God’s faithfulness.

Final Thoughts
Beloved, praise is not just something we do; it’s who we are. We were created to glorify our Creator. Let’s not allow inanimate objects or nature to outshine our voices. Let’s be like Paul and Silas, who chose to worship in their darkest hour. Let’s be like David, who faced giants with a song of victory in his heart. As long as we have breath, let us praise the Lord.
Father, thank You for the gift of praise. Thank You for inhabiting our worship and for being present in every circumstance of our lives. Help us to lift our voices in praise, no matter what we face, and to trust that You are working all things together for our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
