Author’s Notes:

This haiku reflects a moment of clarity, born from observing how people, at times, seem content with doing just enough. It struck me how often this approach—doing the bare minimum—feels so common, and it left me with a subtle sense of disappointment. As I reflected on it further, I realized this wasn’t just an external observation but also a moment of internal questioning. Was there a part of me that sometimes settled for the minimum, too? This haiku captures both the broader realization of this common behavior and the personal reflection that followed, urging myself and others to consider whether we are truly pushing beyond what’s merely required.

Do the work required
But at the bare minimum
No one benefits
