When I was a child, I cherished the solitude of exploring my surroundings alone. Growing up in a yellow hilltop house in a residential neighborhood, we were enveloped by tall grasses and various trees, with bamboo lining our long driveway.
Because of the significant age gap between my three older sisters and me, I often played by myself. My parents were too busy to join me in play, and my mom would encourage me to use my imagination. I created my own world and even pretended to have an imaginary friend.
On weekends, after lunch, I would often slip away to play alone, seeking the shade under the bamboo trees. There, I listened to the rustling leaves as the bamboo swayed back and forth, their sound reminiscent of maracas. The serene atmosphere was enchanting, with only the wind blowing and the occasional song of cicadas in the background.
In those quiet early afternoons, I used my imagination to create a world where fairies might be exploring alongside me. These moments of stillness, listening to the dancing bamboo whispering to each other, remain some of my most treasured childhood memories.
