I’ve always been fascinated by the regrets people express when they’re on their deathbeds. Driven by curiosity, I researched the top 10 regrets that people commonly have at the end of their lives and wanted to share these insights with you so that we might learn from them and live more fulfilling lives. My approach to life is preventative; by addressing these potential regrets now, we can strive to live fully and without remorse. Here are the top 10 regrets that people often have at the end of their lives, compiled from various online sources:

1. Not Pursuing Their Dreams and Aspirations: Many people regret not taking risks to follow their passions or dreams, often feeling they settled for what was safe or expected.

2. Working Too Much: A common regret is spending too much time on work at the expense of personal relationships and experiencing life’s joys.

3. Not Spending Enough Time with Loved Ones: People often regret not spending more quality time with family and friends, missing out on valuable moments and connections.

4. Not Expressing Their True Feelings: Holding back emotions and not telling people how they really feel, whether it’s love, appreciation, or even difficult truths, is a common regret.

5. Neglecting Their Health: Many regret not taking better care of their physical and mental health, including not eating well, exercising, or managing stress.

6. Not Traveling and Experiencing More of the World: Some people regret not exploring more, traveling, and experiencing different cultures and perspectives.

7. Allowing Fear to Hold Them Back: Regrets often include letting fear of failure or judgment prevent them from taking action or trying new things.

8. Not Staying True to Themselves: People often regret conforming to others’ expectations or societal norms instead of living authentically and true to their values and desires.

9. Losing Touch with Friends: Regretting lost friendships and not maintaining relationships that were once important is common.

10. Not Making Amends: Many regret not resolving conflicts, apologizing, or forgiving others, leading to lingering feelings of resentment or guilt.

Looking at this list, are there things you need to work on now? The best time to start is today, because we are never guaranteed tomorrow. These regrets highlight the importance of living authentically, prioritizing relationships, taking care of oneself, and embracing life’s opportunities. My hope is that by addressing these areas now, we can minimize our regrets and move on peacefully to another existence when the time comes.

I am working on traveling more. I’ve always made excuses, but I realize that I am not getting any younger. We have plans for Japan in four years. We’ve also have a cruise to St. Thomas/St. Maarten in January 2025 and a cruise to Aruba in February 2026.
