How do you practice self-care?

In the hustle and bustle of life, we often find ourselves overwhelmed with responsibilities such as paying the mortgage or rent, managing bills, grocery shopping, taking care of kids, studying, building a career, and supporting our families. Amidst these demands, it’s easy to forget to prioritize our own mental and physical health. To combat this, my workplace has implemented wellness hours to encourage employees to focus on their well-being. While I don’t always utilize these hours, when I do, I engage in activities that significantly enhance my self-care routine. Here’s how I practice self-care:
Engaging in Therapeutic Activities

Reading and Journaling:
I find reading and journaling to be deeply therapeutic. I read books about self-improvement, spirituality, and fiction, dedicating at least an hour or two to reading when I get home or during the weekends. Currently, I’m reading “55 Questions to Ask Yourself” by Manoj Chenthamarakshan, which focuses on self-reflection. Journaling, whether in the morning or at the end of the day, helps me organize my thoughts and reflect on my journey. It’s interesting to see recurring themes in my entries, highlighting areas I’m still working through.

Exploring Hobbies and Interests

Learning New Skills:
I enjoy learning new languages and musical pieces. Although I haven’t been active in language learning recently, I plan to return to it soon. As for music, I haven’t practiced much since the pandemic, but I make it a point to listen to uplifting and spiritual music during my commute. Engaging in these hobbies helps me stay mentally stimulated and brings a sense of accomplishment.

Cultivating a Positive Mindset

Listening to Uplifting Content:
Filling my mind with positive content is crucial for my mental health. I achieve this by listening to uplifting podcasts that broaden my perspective and inspire me. Recently, I’ve been fascinated by podcasts about near-death experiences, finding them both educational and inspirational. These stories not only uplift me but also provide valuable insights into different life experiences.

Taking care of oneself amidst the demands of daily life is essential for maintaining mental and physical health. Whether it’s through reading, journaling, engaging in hobbies, or listening to positive content, self-care practices can significantly enhance our well-being. By incorporating these activities into our routine, we can better manage stress and enjoy a more balanced life.
