How do you want to retire?

Retiring from a job, not life, is what I’m looking forward to doing. For me, retirement means finally having the freedom to pursue activities I’ve always wanted to but couldn’t because of the demands of my job. Spending five days a week behind a desk and a computer left little room for personal projects and hobbies.

Scrapbooking Dreams

One of the first things I’d dive into is scrapbooking. Over the years, I’ve collected countless photos that are just waiting to be organized into beautiful scrapbooks. While I can do a bit on weekends or after work, there’s never enough time to design and assemble them the way I want. Retirement will give me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in this creative project.

Travel and Cultural Exploration

My vision of retirement also includes travel, whether it’s occasional trips or extended stays in different countries for a month or even three. I’m always eager to experience new cultures and environments. I love to explore, and retirement will allow me the freedom to go on cruises and travel without the need to ask for time off or worry about returning to a job.

Musical Pursuits

Another passion I’d rekindle is music. During the COVID-19 quarantine, I spent a lot of time learning new piano pieces, and I plan to continue that. I’d also love to learn other instruments like the cello and perhaps try my hand at composing music. Music has always been a source of joy and creativity for me.

Family and Friends

Spending quality time with family and friends is another important aspect of my retirement plan. With my family living in Oceania, I envision spending extended periods in Australia and New Zealand, reconnecting and vacationing with them. I would also visit friends in Europe, strengthening those bonds that have been stretched by distance and time.

Creative Home Projects

Retirement will also allow me to pursue other creative projects like quilting and various sewing endeavors. I’ve always found joy in creating something with my hands, and these projects have been sidelined due to my work commitments.

Writing for Therapy and Self-Discovery

Writing will play a significant role in my retirement as well. I find writing therapeutic; it helps me organize my thoughts and gain insights into myself. Perhaps this love for writing stems from my formative years when I was an avid reader.

A Future Full of Learning and Creativity

Life after years of working will be filled with fun, learning, and exploration. There will always be something new to learn, a project to start, or a new recipe to try. Just like during the COVID quarantine, I know I won’t get bored even when I’m by myself.
