Kim Namjoon a.k.a. RM

If I were to have a coffee date with someone, I would pick Namjoon Kim. “Who is Namjoon Kim?” you might ask. He is none other than the wise and humble leader of the Korean pop group, BTS. Although not officially titled as the spokesperson, Namjoon often acts as the voice of the group during their interviews in the United States, translating and speaking on behalf of his fellow members.

Learning English is a remarkable aspect of his journey. Namjoon did not study in the United States; he learned English by watching the American TV series “Friends.” His mother provided all the seasons, and he watched them first with Korean subtitles and then again without them. This unconventional method of learning led him to speak English fluently, with a slight Korean accent.

What I truly admire about Namjoon is his depth of thought. He articulates his thoughts with clarity and communicates at a heart level, commanding attention through humility rather than demand. His gentle personality shines through his words and actions.

Namjoon’s endearing clumsiness adds to his charm. Known as the “god of destruction,” he has a knack for unintentionally breaking things. He also tends to forget things and occasionally lets secrets slip. For instance, he once forgot his passport while traveling overseas, and during a live stream, he accidentally revealed Van, a BT21 stuffed animal, before it was officially introduced.

His vulnerability is another aspect that makes him special. Namjoon is open about his struggles, sharing them with complete strangers, demonstrating immense courage. He accepts criticism gracefully and makes immediate efforts to improve, a trait I deeply respect.

Namjoon is a natural-born leader, embodying humility and openness. He shows genuine care and love for his fellow members, which is evident in their interactions. These qualities make him an inspiring figure and someone I would cherish the opportunity to have a coffee date with.
